Promoting young talent

The Thurgau Youth Orchestra makes a lasting contribution to promote young musicians by not only offering them the opportunity to get to know and experience orchestral literature at the highest level, but also to grow into orchestral playing through targeted development.

Training

The Thurgau Youth Orchestra is connected to the Chamber Music Academy, which offers an additional training platform for young musicians. This applies both to the entire canton of Thurgau and nationwide.

The young musicians gain experience playing together in small groups and are thus trained in addition to orchestral playing or in preparation for it. The individual support of the chamber music director makes it possible to adapt the repertoire to the level of the students and thus ensure development. In this way, the young musicians can grow into the high demands of orchestral playing.

This is a very good opportunity, especially for young wind players, to gain their first experience in ensemble playing, as playing the solo voices in the orchestra already requires a great deal of technical skill. This means that wind players, like string players, can be integrated and supported earlier.

It is also possible to play only part of the program at the beginning. This allows the young people to grow into the orchestra without being overwhelmed.

Trial rehearsals

So that interested young people can experience playing in an orchestra for themselves and to make it easier for them to get started, trial rehearsals are held twice a year, at the end of March and the end of September, at the beginning of the rehearsal period for the autumn or spring program. The sheet music can be downloaded from the website for preparation. Next trial rehearsal: April 26, 2025, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in the auditorium of the Kantonsschule Kreuzlingen.

Of course, it is also possible to attend a rehearsal and/or play along at any time.

Would you like to play in the Thurgau Youth Orchestra?

If you play a string, woodwind or brass instrument at a good level and enjoy classical music, then contact Valérie Weidmann, youth representative (va.weidmann@gmail.com) for all information and registration.

I have been able to experience with what great care and precision, with what rhythmic verve and fine sense of nuance Gabriel Estarellas Pascual has put my work into practice. He can immediately, thanks to his vast musical experience as a violinist, place himself in the role of conductor with a great and very natural bodily expression. At the same time, I could see his impressive pedagogical skills, how contagiously he could infuse the orchestra with his optimism and passion for music.
