60 Years of the Thurgau Youth Orchestra: Beethoven and Brahms

For its 60th anniversary, the Thurgau Youth Orchestra will perform symphonies by two of the greatest composers of the 19th century: Beethoven’s 8th Symphony and Brahms’s 3rd. They were performed on September 7th in the Protestant church in Romanshorn, conducted by Gabriel Estarellas Pascual. He has led the orchestra since 2008 and expanded the former string orchestra into a full symphony orchestra.

After all 60 musicians have taken their seats, Valerie Weidmann, 26, rises and sets the tone as first violin. Beethoven’s 8th Symphony is cheerful and full of joie de vivre. The audience is immersed in the voluptuous tapestry of sound. The musicians are fully focused.
