The 6th Amriswil Culture Prize will be awarded on September 27th at 7.30 p.m. in the Amriswil Cultural Forum. The prize, which is endowed with 5,000 Swiss francs, goes to Gabriel Estarellas Pascual. The violinist and conductor has lived in Amriswil for five years and, among other things, leads the Estarellas Quartet and the Thurgau Youth Orchestra.
Born in Palma de Mallorca, the Spanish violinist and conductor Gabriel Estarellas Pascual studied music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Madrid and at the Zurich University of the Arts, where he graduated with teaching, soloist and ensemble diplomas. A master’s course took him to Santiago de Compostela, which threw all his future plans into disarray. He met Lea Heinzer and fell in love with his future wife. Although he already had a job at the Philharmonic, he gave it up and came to Switzerland.
Twelve years ago, the young couple founded the Estarellas Quartet, with which they won prizes at the Orpheus Concerts in Zurich and the Migros Culture Percentage chamber music competitions. The Estarellas Quartet has been invited to concerts in Switzerland, Italy, Spain, France, Estonia, etc. and to national and international festivals.
