The Thurgau Youth Orchestra played for its deceased founder

Martin Sigrist’s life’s work was honored at a memorial concert in Romanshorn. The audience filled the Protestant church, where the Thurgau Youth Orchestra has its roots.

Martin Sigrist, who founded the Thurgau Youth Orchestra and led it for 43 years, died in October 2019. On Sunday, orchestra president Andreas Schweizer paid tribute to his musical activity over four decades as a music teacher, conductor and composer at a memorial event in the Romanshorn Protestant church.

Over four decades, Sigrist taught hundreds of students in the cantons of Schaffhausen and Thurgau and took over the direction of several orchestras, including the Thurgau Youth Orchestra, which was then still called the Oberthurgau Youth Orchestra. He and his orchestra have received numerous national and international prizes and awards for their educational and artistic work.
