Thurgau Youth Orchestra: Ten Years of Spanish Passion

Gabriel Estarellas Pascual has expanded the Thurgau Youth Orchestra, which has existed for over fifty years, into a symphonic ensemble. The Mallorcan-born musician is celebrating a first anniversary in three concerts, but is also worried about the next generation.

It is ten years since Martin Sigrist, the founder of the Thurgau Youth Orchestra (it was then called the Oberthurgau Youth Orchestra), retired. This was after a very successful period spanning over forty years and winning many awards. The concerts with the conductor, whose trademark was wearing skirts, were permanent attractions in eastern Switzerland’s cultural life for decades.
